What this tour is.

Our Dolphin, Birding & Photography Expedition is the most popular tour we run — a focused, two-hour boat trip into the heart of Everglades National Park's bay system, designed for travelers who want to see real wildlife without the noise and chaos of an airboat ride.

From our launch on Chokoloskee Island, we cruise into the protected mangrove-lined bays where dolphins regularly come to feed, play, and ride boat wakes. The route changes slightly with weather, tides, and wildlife sightings — that's the point. Your guide is reading the water, not following a script.

What you'll see.

  • Wild dolphins — pods regularly approach the boat, ride our wake, and hunt in the channels
  • Pelican rookeries — entire islands of nesting brown pelicans, often with chicks visible in season
  • Ospreys & bald eagles — both nest in the area year-round; we know the active nest locations
  • Roseate spoonbills, herons, egrets, ibises — wading birds on the flats and shorelines
  • Manatees — frequent sightings, especially in cooler months when they congregate in warm bays
  • Mangrove tunnels — we cruise through where the boat fits, showing how the ecosystem works

Who it's for.

This tour is great for first-time visitors to the Everglades, families with kids old enough to enjoy a 2-hour boat ride (typically age 6+), bird watchers, casual photographers, and anyone who wants the real Everglades experience without committing to a half-day expedition.

If you've already done an airboat ride elsewhere and want to see what you missed — this is the tour. Most of our guests tell us they saw more wildlife in two hours with us than in three days of driving the rest of the park.

What's included.

  • Florida Master Naturalist guide for the entire tour
  • Comfortable, quiet skiff with shaded seating
  • Use of binoculars (we recommend bringing your own if you have them)
  • USCG-required safety equipment for every guest

What to bring.

  • Sunscreen, hat, polarized sunglasses
  • Light jacket in winter months (boat speed creates wind chill)
  • Camera or smartphone — wildlife will be close enough for great photos
  • Binoculars if you want to identify distant birds
  • Closed-toe shoes (no flip-flops on deck)

Common questions about this tour.

No — and that's the whole point. We use quiet skiffs that don't scare wildlife away. Airboats are loud, fast, and great for thrills, but they don't let you actually see dolphins, manatees, and birds up close. Our tours are eco-focused: slower pace, quieter approach, more wildlife.
Wildlife is wild, so we never guarantee specific species, but our dolphin sighting rate is extremely high — well over 90% of tours encounter dolphins, often multiple pods. We know the bays they frequent and the times of day they're most active.
All ages are welcome, but we recommend the tour for kids age 6+ since it's two hours on the water. Younger children are welcome with parents but may get restless. We have USCG-required life jackets in all sizes including infant.
Light rain doesn't stop our tours — wildlife is often more active in cooler, overcast weather. Heavy rain or unsafe conditions (lightning, high winds) may cause us to cancel and reschedule at no charge. We make weather decisions same-day with safety first.
We launch from 1180 Chokoloskee Drive, Chokoloskee Island, Florida — three miles south of Everglades City, about 35 minutes from Marco Island and 50 minutes from Naples. See directions for the full driving route.
